Fortunately, the truth is that it doesn’t take much! Here we have collected some simple tips to help you on your way.

1. Be prepared!

We’ve all experienced it: You see the perfect subject, but then the phone says there’s not enough storage space. Therefore, always make sure you have plenty of free space BEFORE you leave – then you will ensure the perfect picture when, for example, the little one jumps into the water for the first time. Photographing and editing images consumes the battery on the mobile far too quickly, so another good tip is to always carry a power bank in the beach bag. Last but not least: always have the camera easily accessible – and ALWAYS dry the lens! There is nothing worse than when your favorite photo is ruined by grease stains from your pocket.

2. Get to know the camera

Today’s mobiles are equipped with good cameras – and therefore also more advanced camera functions. So play around with it a bit from home – try different formats such as portraits and wide angle, different lighting and exposure times. Also remember that although all mobile phones have autofocus on the camera, you can choose the focus point yourself by pressing the screen on what you want to be the sharpest.

3. Remember the angles

Different angles can give completely different pictures. You must therefore dare to move a little – go both far away for an overview picture and closer for fine details. Squat or lie down on the grass, get on a bench, move the camera up and down and take pictures of the same subject from different places. If you photograph people, this can apply to them too! Wave the dress, kick the sand or pretend to walk – movement in the image creates eye-catching!

4. Do not zoom!

Very few mobile cameras have optical zoom, with the exception of very few expensive models which often have an additional telephoto lens. When you zoom, you are therefore not really doing anything other than cropping the image – and therefore also minimizing the image quality. Therefore, go closer to your subject – unless it is a lion. You’d better prune afterwards.

5. Use colors and frames

A good tip to bring life to the image, or rather to make it a little more exciting, is to either find something colorful – or something that can frame the subject a bit. It can be anything from flowers, some bushes, a wall or something else that you can hide behind or use as a backdrop. If you choose a “frame” for the picture, it will of course become blurry when you set the focal point on the subject – and suddenly the picture looks more professional!

6. Play with the light !

The biggest challenge when photographing on holiday is often the bright sunlight. The sun is not always your best friend because it can quickly create too strong contrasts. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait for a cloud to get the best shot; Better use the light to your advantage! Take pictures with the sun behind you, as you will get details, faces, etc., but also try to photograph against the sun, as you can get some cool pictures of silhouettes.

Also remember that the darker it is, the longer the shutter speed must be to capture enough light. Therefore, many of us experience that indoor and evening photos often become more blurred. Therefore, always hold the camera as stable as possible – with both hands, preferably with the elbows close to the body, or find something to support the phone on. It may also be worth investing in a small tripod!

7. People, people, people!

A beach is a beautiful subject, but it will be even nicer if it includes someone we care about? – especially if they are not posing but just being in the moment! When you travel, you often also want to take pictures of the local people in their natural element, but remember to ask permission. And it’s also important to remember that not everyone likes to be photographed

8. Avoid apps

You can of course snap as much as you want from your holiday, but since you probably take pictures that you later want to develop or use for other things, it is a good idea to take the pictures in the camera app itself. The pictures we take directly through other apps such as Snapchat and Instagram are of considerably lower quality – and therefore often become pixelated when they are developed. Pssst! This also applies when we share pictures between us! If you send pictures via Messenger and WhatsApp, the files are compressed and the pictures are of poorer quality. If you have an iPhone, Airdrop is therefore your best friend!

9. Use a good editing tool

Are you planning to develop the images, but would like to edit them a bit first? Then we recommend using a good editing tool that doesn’t compress the size or quality! Photoshop and InDesign are examples of good tools. On the latter, you can also save your own “presets” (filters) so that all your images have roughly the same color scale – just like the images above. Perfect for stories on social media and photo books!

In May 2012, Etsy raised $40 million in Series F funding, and announced the company had become a B Corp. This B Lab certification lapsed in 2017. Etsy’s 2012 funds went towards expanding Etsy in international markets, including France, Germany, and Australia.

On October 1, 2013, Dickerson held an online Town Hall Meeting to announce that Etsy would now permit factory-made goods and drop shipping, provided the seller either designed or hired designers of the items, disclosed to Etsy their factory, disclosed that they used factories and took “ownership” of the process. In that meeting and afterward, Etsy claimed the meaning of the word “handmade” should be redefined to encompass factory made.

In June 2014, Etsy purchased A Little Market, a French e-commerce site for handmade goods, foods, and wine, for a mix of cash and stock valued at less than $100 million. At the time the acquisition was the company’s largest.

2015: IPO and investor lawsuit

On March 3, 2015, Etsy announced that it had filed for a $100 million IPO. As of 2015, Etsy generated transactions worth US$1.93 billion on its platform, which has 54 million members Etsy went public on April 16, 2015, selling 13.3 million shares, while other stockholders including venture capital firms such as Accel and Acton Capital Partners were selling the rest. The company’s valuation was $1.8 billion and raised $237 million in IPO proceeds. Less than a month later, Etsy stock dropped more than 8%. The stock closed at $30 on its first day of trading on April 16 and dropped down to $20.32 as of May 11.

Shortly after the IPO in 2015, a group of investors filed a class action lawsuit against Etsy claiming fraud. The suit claimed that Etsy’s CEO and officers failed to disclose numerous problems with the site which could affect the stock price, among them that “more than 5 percent of all merchandise for sale on Etsy’s website may be either counterfeit or constitute trademark or copyright infringement” and that “brands are increasingly pursuing sellers on Etsy for trademark or copyright infringement, jeopardizing listing fees and commissions”. The suit also claimed that Etsy management knew of the rampant trademark and copyright infringement but did little to stop it, and in fact worked to hide this information from potential investors.

2016–present

In November 2016, Etsy disclosed that it paid US$32.5 million to purchase Blackbird Technologies, a startup that developed AI software used for shopping context/search applications. After experiencing a first-quarter loss in May 2017, Etsy replaced its chief executive and cut 8% of its workforce. In May 2017, Board member Josh Silverman was appointed CEO over Chad Dickerson, citing pressure from shareholders and poor profits.

In July 2019, Etsy acquired the music based marketplace Reverb for $275 million.

In April 2020, Etsy issues a call to all sellers on the site to start making cloth face masks to combat COVID-19. Masks accounted for around 11% of gross-merchandise sales in the third quarter, selling roughly 24 million. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, shares in Etsy more than quadrupled, with the company’s forward multiple going up around 90 times what analysts had expected from forward earning. Equity analyst at D.A. Davidson Tom Forte stated the pandemic gave customers incentive to return to the website multiple times, rather than the usual occasional purchase of a unique product.

On June 2, 2021, Etsy announced that it had agreed to acquire shopping app Depop, the global fashion resell marketplace for $1.63 billion.

In most locations where Etsy Payments is not available, new shops are unable to onboard to Etsy. As of April 26, 2021, most sellers opening new shops on Etsy are required to onboard with Etsy Payments, which brings limitations on creating new shops in some countries.

Privacy

In 2011, in an effort to add social networking features to Etsy, the company implemented features that allowed users to search other users’ buying histories and to trace their purchasing transactions. Etsy thought this feature would allow Etsy users to connect to individuals with similar buying and/or selling histories and an automatic opt-in was applied to all users without the attainment of prior permission. Users of the service raised concerns over the feature’s violation of privacy rights, but an official response was not released by the company.

Santiago

Santiago is the capital of Chile and the city has around four million inhabitants. You can easily explore the city center on foot. Santiago is a city with many historic buildings but also with a large number of modern skyscrapers. It is a lively city where you can eat well and with a vibrant nightlife. During a holiday in Chile it is nice to stay in Santiago for two or three days. 

Rancagua

This coastal town just an hour’s drive from Santiago has many old colonial buildings that give you the feeling of being in Europe. There are many vineyards around Rancagua and the city is therefore a good base if you want to visit Chilean vineyards.

Valparaiso

This colorful city is located right next to the sea and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The port city is located in a bay and is surrounded by green hills with the Andes mountains in the background. You can easily get lost in the city full of narrow streets, but that way you will only discover beautiful places. The city has an alternative bohemian atmosphere and in the evening there is plenty to do because Valparaiso is known for a busy nightlife. The most beautiful neighborhood of the city is Cerro Concepción with beautiful colored Victorian houses.

Sightseeing in Chile – nature

Torres del Paine

This nature reserve is located in Patagonia in southern Chile. It has beautiful blue lakes, high mountains and robust glaciers. The park is named after three impressive granite towers that you will find in the park, the Grande Paine being the tallest. Animal and plant life is very rich in Torres el Paine. There are various llamas, the large Andean condor and all kinds of other birds. There is also a lot to do in Torres del Paine. You can hike for days, but also kayak or horseback ride.

Magdalena Island

This is the Chilean version of “the end of the world”. Hundreds of thousands of penguins nest on this uninhabited island in the south of Chile . The island itself is already very beautiful to see, but the penguins make it a place not to be missed. It is certainly a special experience to see all the penguins here. If you are successful, you will spot dolphins on the way to the island. Isla Magdalena is one of the most special sights of Chile.

The Lake District

The Lake District is also known as the Switzerland of South America. It is a nice quiet area with, of course, many lakes. In the cities in this area you can clearly see the German colonization reflected in the architecture, making it even more like Switzerland. The best way to discover the Lake District is with a rented car.

Atacama desert

This desert is located in the north of Chile. It is the driest place on earth and a large expanse of plain. In some places in the desert it has not rained for centuries. You can visit the village of San Pedro de Atacama which is located in the middle of the desert. In the desert you can take walks or you can sandboard one of the dunes!

Newport

Nieuwpoort is known as the best sailing center of all Belgian coastal towns, and is home to one of the largest marinas in the North of Europe . It is a historic destination with a lively center and played a major role in the First World War.
In addition, Nieuwpoort is a real fishing spot and there is still plenty of fishing. In the nearby National Fisheries Museum you can learn and see everything about the fisheries of this area! If you are looking for a combination between modern and old, Nieuwpoort is ideal. Tall apartment buildings alternate with trendy boutiques, cafes and restaurants, and the old center breathes history. In addition, the wide, long beach is of course one of the main attractions. To enjoy!

Ostend

This lovely seaside resort on the North Sea offers more than 9 kilometers of beautiful sandy beaches where you can easily spend a few days. Alternate sunbathing and swimming with a lovely walk on the long boulevard, and also discover the bustling center of Ostend. Here you can shop for hours, visit museums, grab some terraces, etc. Ostend used to be a picturesque fishing village, and nowadays a lively mix of old and new. There are plenty of good restaurants and eateries up for grabs, and the green surroundings are perfect for nature trips.

Zeebrugge

Zeebrugge is also called the fishing city of Belgium, and has a central location on the Belgian coast. This makes it the perfect destination to explore the beautiful surroundings (including the Ardennes). Zeebrugge has Europe’s largest fish market, and the beautiful harbor with its rich history is also famous. There are many luxury hotels here, but there are also affordable options, and the beach is long and wide. Besides this, Zeebrugge has much more to offer. For example, visit the Fisheries Museum, the Russian submarine Foxtrot , and the beautiful Residence Palace.   Take a walk along the calm Zeebrugge sea wall, and occasionally stop at a cozy cafe or fish restaurant to rest. When you want to go out, take your bike and ride via a 12-kilometer canal to the historic city of Bruges

Bredene

Bredene is actually nothing like most other coastal towns in Belgium. You will not come across many new buildings here, no luxury resorts, expensive hotels or chain stores. No, you really go to Bredene purely for the peace and quiet, and that is not far to seek on the beautiful wide beach, which is surrounded by high dunes. Due to its central location, Bredene is also very suitable for exploring the vast hinterland. So take your bike or sturdy walking shoes with you when you go here. In addition to the beautiful surroundings, Bredene also offers opportunities for entertainment. The village itself is cute and authentic, and there are a number of good restaurants. Brasserie Duinenhoeve is especially recommended! Pure and traditional, and honest food.

From Breakdown

This seaside resort certainly belongs to the category of “most beautiful coastal towns in Belgium”. The white-covered sandy beach is the widest in the whole country, and therefore attracts many visitors. The high idyllic dunes of the Panne, together with those of Dunkirk , were also perfect shelters for the evacuation of British troops during the Second World War. The city is therefore honored with a monument to King Leopold, and an interesting museum from the war. Outside of the historical side, De Panne is just a super beautiful and bustling place to stay. On the boulevard you will find cozy bars, bistros and shops, and in the surrounding countryside you can enjoy walking and cycling. The perfect coastal destination!

Oostduinkerke

This seaside resort is also called Koksijde-Oostduinkerke because of its sub-municipality, and is located on the southwest coast of Belgium. You can experience a wonderful holiday here, between the Hoge Blekker (highest dune on the Flemish coast) and the more than 700 hectares of beautiful nature reserves. In addition, Oostduinkerke is also very artistic and you can be surprised by various works of art and archaeology. Think for example of the Paul Delvaux Museum . Very interesting! for example is a must see for any culture lover. Oostduinkerke also has an authentic fisherman’s life, and you can occasionally see shrimp pickers at work on the beach. Of course you can also enjoy delicious seafood and fresh fish here at one of the cozy restaurants.

Knokke-Heist

This top destination on the Belgian coast has one large beach, which in turn is divided into 5 different beaches. So there is always plenty of choice, and whoever wants can alternate one beach with the other. Besides that, Knokke-Heist is close to a beautiful nature reserve, there are plenty of shops, numerous cultural activities, good outdoor sports facilities, and there is a wonderful mix of cultural diversity. In addition, Knokke-Heist has dozens of art galleries, where art lovers can indulge themselves. A little further from the center, the neighborhoods become a bit more chic, and you will find more trendy and luxurious shops and restaurants.
