The South American country of Chile is becoming increasingly popular as a holiday destination. This country attracts millions of visitors from all over the world every year. The nature in Chile is beautiful and unique. You will find many nature parks here, but also undiscovered jungles with untrodden paths. Which places should you really see during a visit to Chile? We have listed the most beautiful places for you!
Atacama desert
The Atacama Desert is located in the north of Chile and this is the driest desert in the world. There are 183 animal species in this desert. Think of llamas, alpacas, bats, but also flamingos. The most unique place in the Atacama Desert is the Moon Valley. This one gets its name from the alien landscape. According to scientists, this area is very similar to the landscape on the planet Mars. The beautiful red rock formations in combination with the clear blue sky provide an impressive view.
Altiplano plateau
The Altiplano plateau is the second largest plateau in the world and covers parts of Chile, Bolivia and Peru. In this plateau you will find many volcanoes and impressive mountains.
Tip : Do not visit this area in the period from December to March. This is the rainy season. Outside these months the temperature is mild and the sun shines for large parts of the day.
Easter Island
The world famous Easter Island is located about 3,000 kilometers from Chile in the middle of the South Pacific. This island was discovered in 1722 by a Dutch explorer and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1995. The rocky island is best known for its giant stone statues. You will also find three (sleeping) volcanoes and impressive nature here.
From Elqui Valley
This unique valley is located in the middle of the Andes and you can enjoy great ‘stargazing’ here. Although this area is becoming increasingly popular, there is no mass tourism (yet). Because of the water that flows into the valley from the Andes, this valley is very fertile and green.
Torres del Paine
We conclude this list with the most popular area of Chile. Torres del Paine is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful natural areas in the world. In this versatile area you will find white mountain peaks, clear blue lakes and gigantic glaciers. The park is over 2,000 square kilometers in size and over 12 million years old!
