Pena . Palace and Park
The Pena Palace and the surrounding park are located in Sintra, just outside Lisbon. It is very easy to reach by train, but it is in an area with a lot of height difference. So wear sturdy shoes , because you still have to climb a bit. The colorful palace has a fairytale appearance due to its special architecture and its location on top of a mountain. You can tour the palace and enjoy the sweeping views as you peer over the battlements. The accompanying park with its many fountains is also beautiful to wander through.
Bethlehem
In the Belém district you can of course enjoy the tastiest Pastéis de Belém, delicious sweet pastries made from custard and puff pastry. But the Torre de Belém, traditionally a defense tower, is also enchanting. Especially in the evening, when it is beautifully lit. This impressive structure is about 35 meters high and from the platform on top you have a beautiful view over the river Tagus .
Alfama
Alfama is the old part of Lisbon. Take the iconic tram line 28 to this part of the city and be enchanted by the picturesque quarter. Wander criss-cross through the narrow streets and stairs and eat authentic Portuguese in one of the many small restaurants. Alfama is the birthplace of the traditional fado, the Portuguese song of life. Fado music can be heard every evening in the many bars of the district.
Hell’s Mouth
If you’re in the mood for some dramatic natural beauty, leave Lisbon behind and head to Boca do Inferno in Cascais. Here you have a spectacular view of the waves, which hit the rocks with dizzying force. As a result, the water also sprays out of the top of the rocks through the caves. This place is also known for the fact that Aleister Crowley, an astrologer, faked his own death here in 1930 as a publicity stunt.
viewpoints
Miradouros are viewpoints. Portugal is spread over several hills and there are many Miradouros. From these vantage points you have a beautiful view and they are often artfully tiled with Portuguese pottery. Find a bench and enjoy the view of one of these romantic places together. If we can give you a tip: definitely go to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântra with the beautiful fountain. Romance guaranteed!
Quinta da Regaleira
Quinta da Regaleira is also located in Sintra. This palace complex is probably the most mysterious place in Portugal and there are several exciting stories about this location. For example, film and photo cameras would regularly break down spontaneously. The castle is richly decorated and you can enjoy yourself here for a whole day. You should not miss the special spiral staircase to the well and you can keep looking at the castle itself, because of the many detailed decorations.
