Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert

This village is a popular destination in Hérault, and for good reason. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert seems to come from a medieval tale. The village has beautiful stone buildings, narrow streets and attractive squares. It is therefore on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is an important place on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The beautiful Abbey de Gellone in the center of the village welcomes pilgrims daily.

 

Flavigny-sur-Ozerain

Pesmes

Roussillon

Roussillon is a pretty village in Vaucluse with red houses. It has many beautiful squares and a cozy atmosphere. Roussillon is located in the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon. Next to this beautiful village is the largest ocher mine in Europe, the Colorado Provençale, which is compared to the Colorado Canyon in the United States. This is a special place to walk through. On the way you pass deep ocher-colored pits and bizarre rock formations.

 

Rocamadour

Located in Lot, this village is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in France. At the beginning of the Middle Ages, Saint Amadour stayed here. There are many legends surrounding the Saint and pilgrims have been coming to the village for centuries. Rocamadour is built against a rock and at the top of the rock is an old castle which is worth a visit. Local delicacies of this picturesque village in France include goat cheese and foie gras pâté.

 

Gordes

This is another beautiful authentic village in the Vaucluse which is visited by many tourists. But despite the crowds, the village is still worth a visit. It is located on a hill topped by a castle from the 16th century. The streets of Gordes are very narrow and the houses have an authentic look. In the castle at the top of the village is a museum of the Flemish painter Pol Mara, who lived in Gordes for a while.
